Belgian police inspector killed in Jette as teen suspect detained in Paris
A minor was placed in a closed youth facility while extradition from France is pending.
A police inspector was killed in Jette, and a minor was arrested in Paris in connection with the case, authorities say.
The investigation into the death of inspector Nordine El Talbi has identified six suspects in total, including one minor. Prosecutor Julien Moinil of Brussels announced earlier that one suspect was picked up in a Paris train station, while three others were arrested in Almería, Spain.
Brussels prosecutors said the suspect count included five adults and one minor, and the latest reporting places the minor’s arrest in Paris. Strong suspicions have been reported that the minor was the person who fired the fatal shot.
The minor has been given a place in a closed youth centre, even though he has not yet been extradited from France to Belgium. A defence lawyer for the inspector’s family, Sven Mary, said the information being reported was premature, while the Brussels prosecutor’s office was not reachable at the time for confirmation or denial.
The case is ongoing, with the minor held in a closed youth facility and Belgian authorities awaiting extradition as the investigation continues.
