Polish police arrest man suspected of planning attack on Donald Tusk
Interior minister says the threat was detained after a security alert.
Polish police arrested a man suspected of threatening and planning an attack on Prime Minister Donald Tusk, and also Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz.
Interior Minister Marcin Kierwiński said the suspect was detained on Sunday, but gave no details about the man’s identity or the type of attack planned. Tusk wrote on X that police acted quickly and thanked them for “fast and decisive action.”
Police said they received information about a possible plot earlier on Sunday. Jacek Dobrzyński, a spokesperson for the minister overseeing Poland’s intelligence services, said authorities assessed there was a “high probability” the threats would be carried out.
An emergency meeting of security services, police, and Interior Ministry representatives was held on Sunday. Dobrzyński said the threat first reached the state protection service, which then passed it to the police. He added that intelligence services have been receiving an increasing number of threats each month.
The alarm comes as Poland remains on high alert following a series of school stabbings earlier this week, in which one person died and many were wounded, including children. Poland’s government has also expressed fears of a possible Russian hybrid attack aimed at weakening Western support for Ukraine.
The suspect has been arrested and is in custody, with authorities continuing to investigate the alleged threat.
