Prague police detain man after attempted stone throw at Parliament
Police held one person over a suspected offence during the night protest.
Prague police detained one person after he allegedly tried to throw a paving stone at the Czech Parliament building, during a night protest against government plans.
The incident happened during the protest against a plan to push through in the Chamber the cancellation of TV and radio licence fees. Police said the person was secured about half an hour after midnight, and the case was handled as a suspected offence.
During Friday evening and the night, protesters attempted to get into the Chamber building, and police prevented them for some of the time, according to the police statement. In total, several dozen people tried to enter.
Earlier in the evening, order inside the Chamber was also affected when a disturbance from the public gallery led the session chair to interrupt the meeting and ask for police intervention. A police statement said the security response was carried out for public order and safety.
The Chamber later voted to send the government proposal to a second reading after intense debate. Police said the detained person was held over the paving stone incident, but did not provide further details.
The case status is that police have detained one person in connection with the suspected offence investigation, with no additional outcome reported.
