Police detained a man in Ukraine’s Rakhiv region over an alleged scheme to smuggle a draft-age man across the state border into the EU outside official checkpoints. Officers from the Khust district police unit, with the Strategic Investigations Unit and border guards, stopped the suspect on 28 October shortly after midnight. The arrest came right after he received 10,000 euros for arranging an illegal crossing. The police said the plan was set up by a 23-year-old man from the village of Luhy, Rakhiv district, for a 26-year-old resident of Khust district. The route was planned through Rakhiv district, where the client was temporarily housed in a hotel before further movement. Investigators documented the suspect’s activities and carried out the detention near the hotel. During the search, police seized the 10,000 euros, three mobile phones, and a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter vehicle. The suspect was placed in a temporary detention facility. Police charged him under part 3 of Article 332 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which covers illegal border crossing assistance. The case remains under police investigation with the suspect in custody.
