A driver allegedly tried to run over a carabiniere during a high-speed chase on the tangenziale of Reggio Emilia, ramming a police vehicle before fleeing on foot. The incident happened at 23:20 on 15 October 2026 on the Statale 722. Carabinieri units in a Radiomobile patrol stopped an Alfa Romeo Tonale with two people on board, but the driver refused to halt. A chase followed along the bypass road toward Parma, marked by sudden speed changes, risky overtakes, and dangerous manoeuvres through traffic. At the Gavassa exit, the police vehicle pulled alongside to overtake safely. The driver then allegedly made a sharp left turn, hitting the Carabinieri car in a deliberate attempt to throw it off the road. The police car suffered a punctured front right tyre and damage to its side, and it became stuck. The driver then allegedly directed the Tonale toward one of the soldiers who had stepped out to get away from the vehicle, forcing him to jump onto the hood to avoid being struck. After the vehicles were brought under control, both occupants fled on foot into adjacent fields, crossing the Statale 722 and climbing over the metal guardrail. Several motorists reported having to brake hard to avoid them. Carabinieri reached and stopped the driver shortly after, while a search with Polizia di Stato support for the second man ended unsuccessfully after several minutes. Database checks showed the same car had also been involved in another chase on 10 October, this time with Polizia Stradale in Bologna. The 37-year-old man, an Albanian, was arrested in Italy with no fixed address. The case was brought on allegations of resisting a public official, fleeing after an order to stop with danger to other road users, and aggravated damage. He was taken through health checks after a temporary illness and then placed in custody for a direct court appearance. In his pocket, officers found more than 2,600 euro in cash and two mobile phones.
