Police and CSDD carried out coordinated checks across central Riga, stopping cars on several streets and issuing criminal penalties, according to 360TVs Sadursme 360. In a few hours, more than 5,500 vehicles were checked. Police detained six drivers for driving under the influence, while CSDD measures resulted in 10 cars losing their technical inspection and 6 cars being left without licence plate number signs. During the operation on Noliktavas, Citadeles and Krišjāņa Valdemāra streets, one Volvo driver admitted he had been caught driving drunk before and had only recently regained his driving licence. This time, his separation from the right to drive was set to be longer, with a significant fine threatened. Another dramatic case was recorded at the wheel of a Nissan Juke. A woman was reportedly driving while under the influence of alcohol, with a small child in the car cabin. Police and CSDD also found vehicles creating immediate danger due to technical faults. One car was fitted with a modified exhaust system, producing over 100 decibels of noise, above the allowed limit of 85 decibels, and it also had no left turn indicator and a damaged bumper. Another vehicle had tyres worn down to dangerous level, with visible bulges. Police said the Riga checks produced 6 drunk-driver detentions, while CSDD reported 10 cars left without valid technical inspection and six cars prevented from continuing due to hazardous defects and missing number plate signs.
