Police detained a 47-year-old man from Sadu after he allegedly put a dog into a tied sack and threw it into the River Sadu. Officers from the Sibiu County Police Animal Protection Unit were alerted on 17 October at around 09:10, when a caller reported a sack tied with wire and containing a dog in the river. At the scene, police found a young female, a common breed, about 3 to 4 months old, along with a white rope sack. Investigators say the man introduced the dog into the sack around 08:00 that day, tied it, and threw it from a bridge over the River Sadu. The dog was discovered in time after the alert. Because the animal was in danger, police issued an order to place it in a shelter. The puppy was handed over, free of charge, to an animal protection association. Police opened an investigation for animal cruelty, an offence under Article 25, paragraph (3), letter b of Law No 205/2004 on animal protection. Based on the evidence gathered, the man was held for 24 hours and taken to the Alba Police Holding and Detention Centre. The case remains under investigation under the supervision of the prosecutor handling the file at the Sibiu District Court. Legal status: Investigation ongoing, suspect in custody for 24 hours.
