Gujarat ATS arrests extradited Salim Dola after 87.7 kg ecstasy seizure
The Dawood Ibrahim aide was taken into custody in connection with a 2022 Vadodara drug haul worth Rs 438.64 crore.
Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has taken Salim Dola, an alleged drug trafficker extradited from Turkey, into custody in connection with a major 2022 narcotics case.
The operation traces back to Vadodara, where police recovered 87.728 kg of MD drugs, also known as ecstasy, worth Rs 438.64 crore. Dola was brought to India in April and was arrested by the ATS on Tuesday.
Investigators said Dola’s name surfaced during questioning of 10 accused first arrested in the Vadodara drug-bust investigation. ATS said Dola was wanted in the case for allegedly financing a narcotics manufacturing unit, including supplying chemicals used to produce the drugs.
He is also accused of facilitating the sale and purchase of the contraband. ATS alleges that before his extradition, Dola operated a transnational synthetic drug trafficking network across several countries, using clandestine laboratories and factories in India.
The case involves Dola and multiple offences registered in India. The extradition came after Interpol issued a Red Corner Notice based on a request filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
The ATS custody is the latest status reported in the case, with further cases and investigations ongoing including money-laundering probes by the Enforcement Directorate.
