SBU completes search of GUR employee home, releases him
No charges were filed and there are no plans to detain him, lawyer says.
The Security Service of Ukraine has finished a search of the residence of a servicemember linked to the Main Intelligence Directorate, and he was released from handcuffs, with no charges planned, attorney Masi Nayem said on Facebook.
Law enforcement seized electronic devices during the operation, including items containing classified information, according to Nayem. The servicemember was also served with a summons for questioning.
The raid was carried out as part of a criminal investigation into events in Monaco in the summer of 2026. Ukraine’s SBU and the National Police are involved, overseen by the Office of the Prosecutor General.
Nayem said the servicemember’s rights were threatened at the start of the proceedings and that officers were required by law to wait for representatives of the GUR internal security department, but they did not.
The wider investigation follows an explosion in Monaco on June 29, which seriously injured Ukrainian businessman Vadym Yermolayev. Yermolayev said he does not know who ordered the attack, while speculating that people connected to the Main Intelligence Directorate may have been involved. Investigators are also examining a theory involving call centers.
The servicemember remains without filed charges after the search, and there are no plans to detain him.
