A Scarborough man, Paul Davey, has been jailed for breaching a Sexual Risk Order and repeatedly targeting a teenage boy. Davey, 57, appeared at Harrogate Magistrates’ Court on 29 October and was sentenced to 29 weeks behind bars after pleading guilty to the breach and harassment without violence. The Sexual Risk Order prohibited him from contacting anyone under the age of 18. Police said Davey followed the boy over several months, driving alongside him as he walked and, on occasions, filming him. Officers also said Davey slowed his car down so the boy had to walk past it, and approached him to quote bible verses. Police added that he knew the routes the boy would take, and still found him after the boy changed his routes. Police found around 500 images of the boy on Davey’s phone. They also found a printed image of the boy stuck to a chair in Davey’s bedroom. Police said none of the images were of a sexual nature, but the court order specifically prevented him from contacting anyone under 18, directly or indirectly. Detective Constable Jack McCabe of Scarborough CID said the victim was frightened and distressed, and that Davey caused emotional harm and wilfully breached an order in place to protect children. The officer said the prison term reflected the seriousness of the breaches. Davey has been sentenced and is in custody following the court hearing.
