Police arrest security chief after ramming escort vehicle in Nikšić–Danilovgrad
He was also found with a pistol and 117 rounds without the required documents.
Security chief Milan Đukanović, 65, was arrested after allegedly endangering vehicles in the escort of the head of Montenegro’s police, Lazar Šćepanović, on the Nikšić–Danilovgrad magistral road.
Police said the incident happened on 15 October on the stretch between Kujava and Bogetići. Đukanović allegedly overtook vehicles from the escort without permission and then intentionally hit one of them, causing minor material damage.
Officers reported that Đukanović did not stop even after a clear sign from police staff responsible for protecting the director. He continued driving, and Nikšić police later stopped and checked him.
During the roadside handling, Đukanović refused an alcohol test. He was first detained and taken before a misdemeanours judge at the Court for Offences in Podgorica, in the Nikšić division.
Police carried out further steps after the case was opened. Under an order from the Basic Court in Nikšić, they searched properties Đukanović uses in Nikšić, Danilovgrad and Podgorica, and also searched the vehicle he was driving.
A pistol, a “Magnum” type with 14 rounds of matching ammunition, was found and temporarily seized. Police also found 117 rounds of various calibres, which Đukanović was allegedly unable to document with the required paperwork.
The state prosecutor in the Basic State Prosecution in Nikšić, after reviewing the file, assessed that Đukanović’s actions contain elements of the criminal offence of preventing an official person from carrying out an official duty. The prosecutor ordered that he be deprived of liberty and that the case be forwarded within the legal deadline. The prosecutor will make further statements about the weapon and ammunition after additional checks.
