Actor Selma Blair was arrested after she was accused of injuring flight crew on a Delta Airlines flight from Los Angeles to New York and was later charged with assaulting police and a nurse. Blair, 54, was detained late Sunday at John F. Kennedy International Airport after the jet arrived from Los Angeles. Police and authorities took Blair and one of the flight attendants to a hospital for evaluation. In charging documents, an officer said that while he was securing Blair to a stretcher, she pulled a leg from the straps and kicked her repeatedly around the face, neck and chest, causing serious pain and substantial swelling. The officer also said Blair later kicked a nurse in the chest, causing substantial pain. Blair was arraigned in Queens on two counts of second-degree assault late Monday. A judge set bail at $20,000 cash or $60,000 bond, and ordered the next hearing for January. Delta said it has “zero tolerance for unruly or unlawful behavior.” In air traffic communications, the pilot asked for medical personnel at the gate, citing potential injury concerns based on what was heard and seen. The FBI issued Blair a notice charging her with assault related to her actions aboard the aircraft, according to a federal law enforcement official. Those charges are expected to be handled through the petty violations court in federal court in Brooklyn, though no date has been set for her appearance. Blair left court wearing jeans, a white hooded sweatshirt and sunglasses, with her lawyers.
