A 32-year-old Serbian man was arrested in Germany over suspected stolen-car sales, with three deals tied to 66,000 euros, Düsseldorf police said. Investigators allege he sold vehicles stolen in the Netherlands and France through internet adverts, using false names and falsified documents to convince buyers the cars had regular paperwork. The arrest took place on 13 October in Asbach, in Rhineland-Palatinate, during a joint operation by detectives from Düsseldorf and Koblenz. After the arrest, the man was placed in pre-trial detention. Police suspect the scam involved in-person handovers where buyers paid money and received keys and documents. Investigators say the buyers later discovered they had paid for stolen cars. One case dates to 1 February. A “Toyota Corolla” allegedly stolen shortly beforehand in the Netherlands was offered for sale. A meeting was arranged in Höherweg street in Düsseldorf. After an advance payment, keys and documentation were handed over, but the documents were later found to be forged. During the next agreed meeting, a bag of cash and electronic devices disappeared from the buyer’s vehicle. The investigation also covers an April sale of a “Hyundai” for 20,000 euros, reportedly stolen in the Netherlands. Police say the handover was arranged in a garage on Goebenstraße. In May, investigators recorded another sale of a “Toyota Corolla” for 24,500 euros. The police suspect falsified documents were used again. A further alleged deal concerns an “Audi” stolen in France and sold in June for 21,500 euros. The meeting with the buyer took place on An der Icklack street in Düsseldorf. Police say they believe the suspect found buyers through online car platforms and used different identities to set up the meetings. Latest status is that he has not commented on the allegations, and the investigation into the linked cases is ongoing.
