A 48-year-old man was attacked during a severe robbery in a Vienna flat in Leopoldstadt, and two masked suspects fled after taking valuables. Police said the incident happened on 15 October 2026, shortly before midnight. The attackers allegedly persuaded the resident to open his apartment door under a false pretext, then forced their way inside. According to investigators, the two men overwhelmed the homeowner and threatened him with a folding knife, saying they would kill him. To stop him calling for help, they took his mobile phone. The suspects then searched the apartment for valuables and cash. Their haul included a valuable coin collection. With the stolen property, the two men escaped in an unknown direction. The victim later managed to call emergency services using a second mobile phone. He suffered injuries, including to his face and a foot, and was treated on an emergency basis before being taken to hospital. The Landeskriminalamt Wien, investigation unit for robbery, has taken over the case.
