Police detain Krakow shooter after 9 killed in street attack
At least 15 others were injured after the suspect opened fire near the main market.
A shooting in Krakow left 9 people dead and at least 15 others injured after a suspect opened fire on pedestrians at the city’s historic main market.
The attack happened on 7 November. Witness videos circulating online show the gunman firing from a moving black vehicle, followed closely by a police car.
Authorities said the suspected shooter then fled in a car and later got into a firefight with the police. The man was eventually wounded and taken into custody.
Police said the weapons found near the suspect included a rifle of the AR-15 type. In a statement on X, Krakow police also rejected earlier reports claiming there was another suspect, saying the “only known perpetrator” is in police custody.
Krakow police said they were still investigating the motive. The police spokesperson said the suspect, a 25-year-old man, wore a military uniform and used a weapon described as a military type. The spokesperson added that numerous weapons and ammunition were found inside his vehicle.
The city mayor ordered Krakow closed until 11 November while authorities continue their investigation.
