Police detained suspects over a deadly shooting on the Kyiv-Chop highway in Ukraine, in which a 27-year-old man from Rivne was killed. The incident happened near an auto service station in the village of Zelenyi Hai, about 18:30 on 14 October. Less than eight hours later, officers traced the suspects and detained them. Investigators said a verbal dispute broke out between two groups, involving a 27-year-old man from Rivne and a 41-year-old man from Dubno, one day before the shooting. The next day they met at the same area, each bringing acquaintances. During the confrontation, one suspect damaged the wheel of a Volkswagen car used by the opponents. When the parties tried to leave, people in a BMW began to chase them. During the drive, one of the men opened fire at the Volkswagen. The 27-year-old received two gunshot wounds to his back and died. Police launched a special operation, blocking possible escape routes, checking vehicles, reviewing surveillance footage, and identifying the people involved. Officers later found and stopped the BMW used by the attackers. A 44-year-old man from Dubno was detained. Police also carried out an intensive search for the shooter, using a canine team, tracing the suspect’s route, and conducting seven urgent searches across a 16-kilometre area. Around 4:00 on the morning of 15 October, police located and detained the 41-year-old man hiding in a forest strip near the village of Kryliv. The investigation is ongoing under three articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, including intentional murder, hooliganism committed with firearms, and illegal handling of weapons and ammunition. Both detainees were held under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code, and prosecutors are preparing the next steps regarding suspicion and a court-ordered preventive measure.
