Police in Siena arrested a 22-year-old after finding fentanyl and 81 boxes of psychotropic medicines in his possession. The man was spotted just outside the city walls during patrols, near the old town area. Officers caught him in flagrante and took him to the police station for checks, including a personal search and further investigations at his home. According to the police account, the 22-year-old had medicines inside a plastic shopping bag, similar to those sold at supermarkets. Investigators seized a couple of boxes of fentanyl, described in the case as the synthetic opioid known in the United States as “the zombie drug,” and also 81 packages of psychotropic drugs. The Mobile police unit investigated the case, and the seized products were submitted to the Scientific Police for verification. Police said they are trying to understand what the fentanyl was for and trace the supply chain. At the end of the checks, the young man was arrested and also reported for alleged receiving stolen goods, with all items found placed under seizure. The case is now with the prosecutor’s office led by Andrea Boni. The suspect, represented by lawyer Davide Signorino, will appear before the judge for a custody convalidation hearing.
