Police detain six men over 200 kilos of stolen copper in Llanes
The alleged theft left the La Tal3 neighborhood without public lighting and led to court appearances.
Six men were detained by the Guardia Civil in Llanes after an alleged theft of 200 kilos of copper from the town3 public lighting.
Police say the raid was triggered by a call received at midnight on Sunday from the Llanes Local Police, asking for help to locate several men spotted manipulating copper cables on Baltasar Pola Street in the La Tal3 neighborhood.
The suspects fled towards a nearby undeveloped area close to the local tanatorio. Officers set up a device to locate and detain them, established custody points for the vehicles and recovered material, and carried out searches with the Guardia Civil and Local Police.
After patrols combed the area without results, investigators focused on transport routes that could be used to leave the town. The six men were found at Llanes train station, with wet and muddy footwear and lower trousers that raised suspicions.
Following initial identification, police carried out an eye-level inspection of two vehicles whose keys were held by two of the men. Inside, officers found the sheaths of two bolt cutters, bags, clothing, tools, and the documents of the identified suspects.
The six men were detained as alleged perpetrators of a robbery with force, with the report noting they had numerous police records for similar incidents. They were placed at the disposal of the Llanes Court of Instance on Wednesday.
