Police in Hunedoara carried out six home searches in a criminal case about suspected theft and handling of archaeological goods that could be part of Romania’s national cultural heritage. The operation took place on Wednesday morning, under the coordination of the Public Prosecutor’s Office attached to the Orăștie Court and carried out by officers from the Criminal Investigation Service. Investigators used the raids to gather evidence and map out how the alleged offences were carried out. Three people are under investigation in the file. During the searches, police seized several goods and other items of material evidence. The seized materials are expected to be analysed as the investigation continues. The action is ongoing, and legal measures will be ordered once it ends. The three people targeted by the probe benefit from the presumption of innocence and the procedural rights guaranteed by law during the investigation.
