Police accuse four men of election bribery in eastern Slovakia
A 29-year-old mayor candidate is charged over alleged vote-buying payments and food.
Police in Košice Region have charged four men with election bribery linked to the weekend municipal elections on 24 October.
Two men are accused of giving bribes to voters, while the other two are accused of receiving them, including a 29-year-old candidate for mayor in Michalovce District.
Authorities allege the candidate and another man arranged permanent address changes for two people so they could vote in the municipality. In return, voters were allegedly provided food and money.
Police say one of the voters was also handed at least 10 euros.
The charges concern a second pair. Police allege the candidate and a 39-year-old man helped secure permanent address changes for two additional men so they could vote locally, again tied to gifts of food and a payment of at least 10 euros in one case.
Investigators charged all four men with the offence of election corruption. The two men accused of providing bribes face up to two years in prison, while the two accused of accepting them face up to one year. The case is now with the court, which will decide on guilt and sentencing.
