KamPo 2026 police camp gives 48 high school pupils a week in uniforms
The five-day camp ran from 17 to 21 August 2026 at the Vinko Beznik Training Centre in Gotenica.
A five-day KamPo police camp for high school students concluded at the Vinko Beznik Training Centre in Gotenica, with 48 pupils taking part in an introduction to police work.
The camp, held from 17 to 21 August 2026, aimed to give participants an insight into the knowledge and responsibilities involved in a policing career. Organisers said the event also had an educational focus, offering skills for everyday life such as organisation and discipline, as well as training on new technologies. A further objective was to create an informal environment where youths could socialise and build team spirit.
On the first day, participants arrived, registered, and collected their equipment before putting on police uniforms for the first time. They were introduced to formation rules and to the significance and responsibility that comes with wearing a police uniform.
The programme moved from theory to practical activities. Pupils took part in exercises including an obstacle course, designed to test endurance as well as cooperation, communication and teamwork. They also spent a day focused on criminal investigation work. At a simulated crime scene, participants searched for evidence and were instructed on the importance of correctly identifying, documenting and securing material.
In the evening, the camp addressed online safety, including tools to protect property and personal information, and discussions on disinformation, lies and scams.
A highlight of the week involved demonstrations by the Special Police Unit. Organisers said the unit showed work related to bomb disposal expertise, simulated arrests including an arrest of a dangerous individual and an arrest on a train, and gave participants the chance to take part in some activities. The students also had the opportunity to ride in armoured vehicles.
The week ended on Friday with a police helicopter visit, and participants also demonstrated skills they had learned to parents during the closing ceremony. Deputy Director-General of the Police Beno Meglič attended the event and emphasised the importance of team spirit in police work.
