Slovenian police say they have stopped an international drug operation that, if it had reached retail customers, would have generated several hundred million euros. Criminal police officers from Celje, working with the Criminal Police Directorate at the General Police Directorate, concluded a large-scale investigation in June, after covert measures started in June 2025. Investigators targeted an international criminal organisation involved in smuggling illicit drugs via international road transport. Police say they systematically identified the roles of members of the group and mapped their modus operandi. The probe established the involvement of three transport companies based in Slovenia. Investigators say the firms carried out criminal activities alongside legitimate business operations. The case was described as particularly challenging because the organisation operated across multiple countries. Police coordinated operational activities, monitoring suspect and consignment movements across borders, and taking timely decisions to uncover or prevent criminal activity. According to Slovenian police, the smuggling and distribution of large quantities of various illicit drugs and other prohibited substances were blocked. Had the drugs been distributed at retail level, their total value would have amounted to several hundred million euros. Police said the investigation involved close cooperation with law enforcement authorities in Belgium, the Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden and Finland, as well as Europol through EMPACT, the European multidisciplinary platform for combating criminal threats. The investigation has been concluded, but the police did not provide details on arrests, charges, or court outcomes in the available information.
