A suspected investigating police officer in Sofia was arrested in an anti-bribery operation after allegedly taking cash, authorities said. The suspect was detained by the Interior Security Directorate of the Ministry of Interior during a sting where he was caught receiving a bribe with pre-marked banknotes. Media reported the amount as 500 euros, after a complaint was filed. Investigators said the money was reportedly demanded in exchange for a promise to influence a pre-trial case. The suspect was working on that very case. The Interior Ministry confirmed the arrest but did not provide publicly the amount or the officer's identity. Information about the use of marked banknotes was also published by Stoliца.bg. The case is still under investigation, and there is no official confirmation yet on whether charges have been brought. Police said the operation is continuing, with the suspected officer remaining in custody at this stage.
