Fergie Chambers has been arrested in Spain, and the United States has requested his extradition, with the case staying sealed. Sinéad O’Shea updated her documentary with a text card after the arrest. Chambers is being held in Madrid while authorities keep details of the allegations under wraps. Spanish authorities arrested Chambers in July. The Guardian reported that FBI agents raided his vacation rental in Ibiza, Spain. The U.S. extradition request accuses him of alleged financial support for Hamas and other charges. Chambers is also accused, according to his lawyers, of transferring money from the U.S. to finance Hamas. O’Shea said the documentary follows James Cox Chambers as he pursues making a difference, documenting money, power and revolution. She said her film includes his move to Tunisia, where he bought a soccer club after arrests linked to a protest against an Israeli defense contractor that critics called ill-conceived. Chambers’ legal team says he donated only to lawful humanitarian and philanthropic aid projects in Gaza and Palestine. O’Shea said she believes them, while describing some of Chambers’ views as “unacceptable and extreme.” Chambers remains in custody in Madrid, and the extradition case is still pending with details sealed.
