The network allegedly smuggled cannabis via the Strait of Gibraltar to Spain and other EU states.
Spanish police have broken up a major hashish trafficking network, seizing more than 10 tonnes of the drug.
The operation led to the arrest of 87 people. Investigators said the group moved thousands of kilograms of hashish per month through the Strait of Gibraltar, with the shipments destined for distribution in Spain and other European countries.
Police seized almost 11 tonnes of hashish, along with weapons, 25 vehicles, expensive watches and nearly half a million euros in cash. Raids were carried out across seven Spanish provinces.
The largest number of arrests were made in Madrid and Guadalajara. Suspected leaders were also identified, with the network leader reportedly found and detained in Tangier.
During more than 30 searches, officers dismantled seven secret storage locations, including apartments in the capital and industrial areas in Valencia.
Of those arrested, 18 were placed in “pre-trial detention” by the National Court on 18 of the accused.
