A street medic was reportedly assaulted by police during the 17 October 2026 protests in Paris, and the IGPN has opened an investigation. Antoine, a 26-year-old street medic, was seen being hit and dragged on the ground while he was unconscious, toward Place de la République, after allegedly being hit by tear gas at close range near his face. The man was seriously injured, but his condition was not life-threatening. Footage circulated widely after the incident. In the days that followed, Antoine posted on social media, saying he had been “lynched” and dragged in Répubique on 17 October, cutting short rumours that he had died. The IGPN investigation was opened after violence allegedly committed by police. It was assigned by the prosecution, while the authorities also noted another death during the same protest events. Between Boulevard Magenta and Rue de Lancry, a 59-year-old man died after collapsing around 6pm, and an inquiry has been opened into the cause of his death. At latest, the matter remains under investigation, with the IGPN handling the probe into the police violence.
