Juveniles tried breaking into Vienna shop by smashing entry door glass
Police stopped two suspects 20 minutes later after an alarm and a search.
Two juveniles are suspected of trying to break into a shop in Vienna, repeatedly kicking the glass of the entrance door until it shattered, police said.
The incident happened on 23 October 2026 at around 2:30 a.m. near Unter-Meidlinger Straße in the 12th district. A witness noticed the teenagers after hearing loud noises outside his window.
Police launched a manhunt after the suspects fled when the witness called out. Around 20 minutes later, officers stopped two young men near the scene.
During questioning, both gave contradictory statements. A search found a notched emergency hammer hidden in the waistband of the 12-year-old.
The 12-year-old, identified in police records as being from Afghanistan, was handed over to his legal guardians because he is under criminal responsibility. The 15-year-old, identified as being from Austria, was provisionally detained. Further investigations are ongoing.
