32-year-old arrested in Ense after drug find and burglary attempt
Police seized multiple items including suspected amphetamines and arrest followed an A44 stop.
A 32-year-old man was arrested in Ense after police stopped his car following a suspected attempt to break into a building container at a wind farm site.
On Thursday evening, a security firm alerted police after staff monitoring video surveillance spotted a man on the Bittinger Haarweg in Ense. The suspect drove onto the site in a silver Mercedes, pulled a storm hood over his head, and rummaged at a container. When the man was spoken to over a loudspeaker, he fled in the vehicle.
When officers arrived, the container was open, but no break-in damage was found. Police then launched a search.
The missing car was located around 18:00 by officers from the Autobahnpolizei at the A44 near the Werl-Süd junction. A search of the Mercedes turned up three high-value wristwatches, a blank-firing pistol, a knife, a baseball bat, several unknown vehicle keys, cash, two smartphones, and multiple pieces of burglary tools.
Police also found a small bag with what they said was suspected amphetamine. The car and its contents were seized.
Further checks showed the license plates on the Mercedes belonged to another vehicle. Police also found a second set of license plates in the car that had been stolen in Marl a few days earlier, along with its trailer. The man from Marl had no driver’s license and, police said, appeared to be under the influence of drugs, leading to a blood sample being taken.
The suspect was taken into temporary custody and brought to police custody in Soest. Police filed several criminal reports, including a charge for a particularly serious case of theft, driving without a license, license plate misuse, driving under the influence of narcotics, violations of the Weapons Act, and possession and possible dealing with narcotics. The investigation is ongoing.
