Sweden’s border police detained ex-MP Dmytro Svyatosha during passport control as he tried to enter the country for a Stevie Wonder concert. Police stopped the 55-year-old after he arrived from Russia. After document checks, Swedish authorities refused him entry into the country and placed him under the control of the migration service. In Ukraine, Svyatosha was sentenced to 12 years in prison. After leaving for Russia, he remained outside the reach of Ukraine’s punishment enforcement. Swedish journalists said the key factor was an entry restriction in the Schengen information system. Svyatosha reportedly holds both Ukrainian and Russian citizenship, but he presented an Ukrainian passport at the border. His lawyer said the problem stemmed from a September 2026 decision by Poland to ban him from returning, and that the record in the shared Schengen database led to Sweden’s refusal. No information was provided about Poland cancelling the ban. Svyatosha remains detained by Sweden’s migration authorities over the legality of his planned entry into the Schengen zone.
