Thai immigration police arrested a Swedish national wanted in his home country after he was found hiding on Koh Samui, authorities said. The suspect, identified only as "David", is accused of taking more than 6 million Swedish kronor, about 20 million baht, from victims using remote-access software AnyDesk. Investigators said the stolen money was used to buy luxury items including Rolex watches, smartphones, computers and gold bars, which they allege were then used for money laundering. He also faces allegations of impersonating a police officer and fraudulently obtaining firearms. Police said David has a lengthy criminal history involving money laundering, drug offences and assault. The arrest was made through joint efforts by Immigration Bureau Region 6, cybercrime investigators, and international law enforcement partners. David is being held pending extradition proceedings to Sweden, coordinated with the Swedish Embassy and Interpol.
