Taranto police arrest man after agents injured with broken glass bottles
Two municipal officers suffered stitches, with prognoses of 20 and 10 days.
Two agents of Taranto’s Local Police were injured after an attack with broken glass bottles while they were on duty on the seafront.
The incident happened yesterday afternoon on the Lungomare, near the Leogrande promenade, during an intervention triggered by residents’ reports about a situation of urban disorder.
During the stop, the man allegedly refused to show his documents. He then attacked the officers with broken glass bottles and tried to flee.
The injuries required stitches. One agent was given a 20-day prognosis, the other a 10-day prognosis.
The attacker was arrested.
In the aftermath, the union UIL Fp Taranto expressed solidarity with the injured colleagues and called on the city administration and command leadership to introduce concrete safety measures for personnel, including the possible start of an experimental taser and the assignment of telescopic distancing batons. The union also asked for risk-management protocols, stronger staffing, and legal and insurance guarantees for injuries suffered on duty.
