Police arrested a 33-year-old man in central Thessaloniki after he allegedly threw 15 packages of cocaine onto the street to avoid checks. The incident happened at around 01:00 at the junction of Mitropoleos and Chrysoostomou Smyrnis. Officers stopped the man after seeing him and, when control was imminent, he allegedly dropped the packages on the ground and tried to get away. Once he was restrained, police found he also had a separate improvised package containing unprocessed cannabis in the form of a chocolate, plus money linked to drug dealing. Officers seized the cocaine, weighing 14.71 grams in total, and seized cannabis with a total weight of 11.22 grams that the man reportedly had at his home in Evosmos. Officers from Thessaloniki’s Crime Prevention and Suppression Unit, part of the Directorate for Drug and Crime Investigation, carried out the arrest as part of checks to identify people involved in drug dealing and trafficking. A case file was prepared and the man will be taken to the competent prosecutor.
