Thessaloniki police stop smuggling suspect after chase hits 2 patrol cars
An 18-year-old was arrested after carrying 4 people, one in the boot.
Thessaloniki police arrested an 18-year-old after an escape chase on the Egnatia motorway, during which he hit two patrol cars.
The incident happened at night, starting at the Analypsis toll on the Egnatia Road, outside Thessaloniki. The driver did not stop for a police signal and instead sped up, crashing into two police patrol vehicles.
The chase continued as the vehicle was pursued until it was immobilised near the Oraiokastro tolls. The 18-year-old then tried to flee on foot but was caught and arrested.
Police said the car was carrying four people, suspected of being transported illegally. One of them was found in the car’s boot. All four were reported to have lacked documents for legal stay in Greece.
Officers from the Immigration Management Unit of the Aliens Directorate in Thessaloniki coordinated the operation that led to the arrest. Police also seized the vehicle, a cash amount, and a mobile phone.
The detainee, along with a case file prepared by police, will be taken to the competent prosecutor.
