Police uses tear gas in Périgueux as 3 protesters are arrested
Six officers were affected, with three lightly injured during the dispersal.
Police used tear gas to disperse a protest in Périgueux, leading to three arrests and three slightly injured officers, the Dordogne prefecture said.
The trouble erupted shortly after 6pm on Saturday, 17 October, near the Rond-point Guéna. Videos published online show a small group of masked, hooded demonstrators throwing fireworks toward police and gendarmes posted on the roundabout.
As officers worked to clear the area between the courthouse and the Rond-point Guéna, the prefecture said lodging the last protesters was difficult. When the crowd began to disband, the situation became complicated and tear gas was used against people who did not want to leave.
Police then arrested three demonstrators at the end of the demonstration. The confrontation caused three officers, including police and gendarmerie personnel, to be lightly hurt.
The march had gathered up to 2,000 people earlier in the afternoon, with no major incidents reported before the evening confrontation.
