A man suspected of an attack in Trappes and La Verrière told police he wanted to target “Black people” and “Arabs”, according to information reported by Le Monde. Kevin T., 39, was arrested after the shooting on Friday 23 October 2026, in which one man was killed and five other people were wounded, including a 12-year-old child who was described as still in “absolute emergency”. After his arrest in Coignières, in the Yvelines department, the Parquet national antiterroriste (Pnat) said that four people from Kevin T.’s family and close circle were placed in police custody on Saturday 24 October. His mother was held after he was taken into custody, and three other people were later placed under guard. At the time of his arrest, Kevin T. was reportedly in possession of cocaine, tear gas devices, and a British-made Sten MK II submachine gun. Police custody can last up to 96 hours, and the Pnat announced it was extended. Le Monde reported that the suspect told officers he acted to “avenge the shopkeepers” who had been victims of vandalism and looting during disturbances on 17 October. During a search at his home, investigators reportedly found a copy of Mein Kampf. The Pnat also said an attack device was set up in the apartment using three bottles of gas and electrical wires connected to a timer. His latest status remains custody as investigators continue their work, with custody extended by the Pnat.
