Carabinieri officers in Tricarico arrested a 42-year-old after finding a marijuana grow on a fenced property. The operation, carried out on 4 October, led investigators to a cultivation of 35 marijuana plants, ranging from about 50 centimetres to 2 metres in height. Police then expanded the probe with searches at the man’s home. Inside the house, officers seized more than 218 grams of marijuana. About 200 grams were kept in a cardboard box, while an additional 18 grams had already been dried and stored in a jar ready for sale. During the same checks, Carabinieri found and seized four 12-gauge shotgun shells that the man allegedly held unlawfully. They also recovered 1,050 euros in cash hidden under a mattress, which investigators said was proceeds from illegal activity. On judicial orders, the suspect was first placed under house arrest. At a court hearing, the judge for preliminary investigations at the Tribunal of Matera confirmed the validity of the police action, validating the arrest and applying the house-arrest measure. The investigation is continuing following the seizures and the arrest.
