Police arrest fraud suspect in Rezzato after €50 donation scam
An 85-year-old alerted local police, which led to the arrest in flagrante.
Police in Rezzato arrested a man in flagrante for a donation scam targeting an 85-year-old.
The suspect phoned the elderly resident on Friday evening, posing as a volunteer for a charitable association and saying he would return the next morning to collect a cash donation for a social cooperative.
On the following morning, he came to the victim’s home as agreed and was given 50 euros. He then handed over a fake receipt.
The 85-year-old had become suspicious and contacted the local police, who set up an observation service at his address immediately.
While the man was at the house, the social cooperative was contacted by the police and said it was not aware of any fundraising initiative matching the described plan. The mismatch led to an arrest as the man tried to complete the fraud.
The suspect has been arrested. The case is closed from the arrest point of view, with the investigation handled by the local police.
