Carabinieri arrest 2 suspects after attempted robbery of elderly woman in Montecatini
Two men, aged 31 and 29, were stopped while one acted as a lookout and the other tried to take her bag.
Montecatini police, Carabinieri, arrested two suspects after an attempted robbery of a 72-year-old woman in Montecatini Terme.
The two men, aged 31 and 29, were blocked as they tried to steal from the pensioner on her way home. The incident happened in via Tripoli, a short distance from the Carabinieri barracks.
Investigators said the pair acted in a coordinated way. One suspect monitored the area as a “lookout” while the other attempted to take the contents of the elderly woman’s backpack.
The robbery attempt was interrupted by a patrol of the Carabinieri in transit, who spotted the suspicious activity during a territorial control service. The rapid intervention allowed officers to stop the suspects before they could get away.
On instructions from the judicial authority, the arrested men were taken to holding facilities at the Provincial Command of Pistoia, awaiting the summary trial. The prosecution asked for the arrest to be validated and for an order requiring the suspects to present themselves to the police.
The case is currently at the stage of the rito direttissimo, with the suspects in custody pending the convalida request.
