Two men were detained in Sofia during a specialised police operation targeting alleged vote-buying ahead of Sunday’s presidential election runoff. Chief Commissioner Nikolay Peltekov, director of the Sofia Directorate of the Ministry of the Interior, said police found lists of names with corresponding sums of money and leaflets supporting a particular presidential ticket at one of the addresses. The two suspects, aged 52 and 35, have criminal records. One has previously been convicted of robbery and rape, and also of drunk driving and driving without a valid licence. The other, aged 52, also has a robbery record. Police have inspected 16 addresses, checked 38 people and two vehicles, and drawn up 27 official reports under the Ministry of Interior Act. Peltekov said the first round of the presidential election passed peacefully, and police received no reports of vote-buying or vote-selling. The specialised operation is ongoing, with further checks and reports being prepared as police continue their work in Sofia.
