Two men have been charged after an incident near RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire, where police received reports of suspicious vehicles. Nouman Essghir, 24, and Mohmed Ahmad Abdulkarim, 24, were charged under the UK’s National Security Act 2023 after arrests connected to the case were made following reports from late September. Essghir, a British national from the Borough of Westminster in London, was charged under Section 4 for suspected activity on Saturday 22 August. He was first arrested at the scene in Gloucestershire on Sunday 27 September, then re-arrested on 20 October. Abdulkarim was charged under Section 3, which makes it an offence to assist a foreign intelligence service. Police believe the foreign intelligence service involved was Iran. The charges come after five men were arrested near the RAF Fairford air base in late September, when police received reports of several suspicious vehicles in the area. Five other men arrested in connection with the case remain on police bail. RAF Fairford is home to US Air Force units, including the 501st Combat Support Wing headquarters. The air base has been used as a forward operating location for US bombers. The latest status is that Essghir and Abdulkarim have been charged and are awaiting the next steps in the criminal process, while five other suspects remain on police bail.
