Police accuse two minors in Burgos of killing an 83-year-old during a robbery
They face investigation after the victim’s oxygen use was allegedly prevented during the attack.
Police in Burgos have detained two minors, aged 17 and 16, suspected of causing the death of an 83-year-old woman during a street robbery.
The investigation centers on the woman being tied up and gagged in her home on Calle Vitoria. Her daily oxygen treatment was allegedly blocked, and an autopsy later linked her death to respiratory failure.
Investigators said there were no other signs of violence on the body. Police began treating the incident as a homicide from the start, with robbery identified as the main hypothesis while other possibilities were kept open.
The home was found in obvious disarray. Officers reported that the intruders focused on rooms where valuables are usually kept, targeting money and jewellery, which supported the robbery line of inquiry.
Police also worked to narrow down the timeline. Officers said both the theft and the death occurred during the same afternoon.
During the probe, National Police investigators reviewed images from multiple surveillance cameras. Those checks led to the identification and location of the two suspects during the night, with statements taken overnight.
After the police report was completed, the minors were brought before the duty prosecutor in Burgos in the morning. The prosecutor will decide whether to request their placement in a juvenile center as a precautionary measure.
Officers also recovered several gold jewellery items that had been stolen from the home. The case remains under investigation.
