A defendant who admitted assaulting a garda and being intoxicated in public has received a two-month suspended sentence at Kilkenny District Court. Lupascu Pisicia, of Fairgreen Hostel in Fairgreen, Galway, pleaded guilty to the offences committed on November 30, 2025. Sergeant Morgan O’Connor told the court that gardaí received a report of an intoxicated man who was aggressive at the Emergency Department of St Luke’s Hospital. After the man was discharged and refused to leave, he was arrested and taken to Kilkenny Garda Station. Sgt O’Connor said Pisicia spat at a garda’s face and connected. Defence solicitor Tertius Van Eeden said the 60-year-old was “in between Kilkenny, Carlow, Waterford and Galway” and had been living in Ireland for the past six years. He said Pisicia was highly intoxicated, flustered because no one spoke his language, and “very apologetic”, with alcohol described as a problem. Judge Geraldine Carthy convicted Pisicia and imposed the two-month sentence, suspended on condition he be of good behaviour and not reoffend. At court, Pisicia remains convicted with sentence suspended subject to the conditions set by the judge.
