UAE leads $39 billion digital fraud crackdown, over 900 arrests
Operation Confrontation Ghost shut down 570 social accounts and blocked 4,126 bank accounts.
The UAE led an international digital fraud crackdown that uncovered more than $39 billion in illicit funds and assets, making over 900 arrests, according to The National.
Operation Confrontation Ghost, run by the UAE Ministry of Interior with Interpol and partners from 30 countries, targeted AI-enabled fraud, digital financial fraud and online sextortion over three months from July 1 to September 30.
Teams thwarted 123.7 million online fraud attempts worldwide, blocked 4,126 bank accounts, shut down 570 social media accounts, and carried out 29 raids linked to fraud.
The cross-border operation resulted in the arrest of more than 960 people, identification of a further 3,500 suspects, and identification of 15,500 victims. Investigators also exchanged more than 9,000 pieces of intelligence between participating agencies.
The operation worked alongside private-sector technology and financial services partners and major platform firms including Meta and TikTok, as well as UAE property platforms Bayut and Dubizzle.
Organisers said the campaign helped protect users and secured more than four billion financial transactions each month through tokenisation technology.
The latest status reported by the ministry is that the operation delivered arrests and blockades as part of an ongoing international counter-fraud effort.
