UK police re-arrest 2 men over alleged Iranian espionage at RAF Fairford
Counter-terror police detained a 24-year-old and a dual British-Iranian 25-year-old again under national security law.
British anti-terror police re-arrested two men linked to alleged help for Iranian intelligence after earlier detentions connected to RAF Fairford last month.
The latest arrests were made on Tuesday, when officers detained a 24-year-old British national and a 25-year-old man with dual British-Iranian nationality.
RAF Fairford was used by US B-1 bombers for strikes against Iran, and the arrests initially followed activity at or around the base on 27 September. Five men were arrested outside a military facility in south-west England that morning.
Two more men were later arrested, but all seven were eventually released on bail. On Tuesday, the Counter Terrorism Policing (CTP) announced it had re-arrested the two men again under the national security law.
CTP assistant commander Laurence Taylor said the investigation is still ongoing and evidence gathering continues, adding that police believe there is probably Iranian involvement. He said authorities want to share more information when they are in a position to do so.
The probe remains active, with the two men back in custody after their re-arrest.
