German federal prosecutors said police arrested an Ukrainian citizen in eastern Berlin, after accusing him of espionage for a Russian intelligence service. The arrest involved information described as “military in nature”. Investigators say the suspect collected details about the production of armored vehicles, ammunition and explosives, as well as information on personnel and military facilities in areas meant to secure NATO’s eastern flank. Prosecutors identified the man as Vadym Y. He was arrested east of Berlin in the state of Brandenburg, by the Federal Criminal Police, based on information from Germany’s domestic intelligence service. Officials said that at least from July 2025, Vadym Y. maintained contact with the Russian intelligence service through an intermediary. They allege that, amid the war between the Russian Federation and Ukraine, he collected information with military significance in Germany for that intelligence service. The man is currently under arrest as the investigation continues, with prosecutors pursuing the espionage case through the German court system.
