Ukrainian man accused after 13-metre fall death near Monaco villa
Police arrested a 42-year-old suspect and charged him with involuntary homicide and failure to help.
A 29-year-old relative of Monaco’s Prince Albert II, Anton de Massi, died after a suspected 13-metre fall near a villa in the Principality, and a 42-year-old Ukrainian man has been arrested.
The body was found in a public green area on Boulevard Larvotto, not far from Villa Sauber. Investigators say de Massi did not show up for a family dinner on Sunday, 25 October, prompting relatives to alert police, after which an area search began.
A criminal case was opened after results from a forensic police investigation, with the facts classified as involuntary homicide and failure to assist a person in danger. The file was forwarded to an investigating judge to continue the inquiry.
Prosecutor Stefan Thibault said the man is being held on remand, while prosecutors still work to establish what happened in the last hours before the death. An autopsy indicates the likely cause was a fall from a height of 13 metres.
The accused Ukrainian man lives in the Principality and is said to deny the allegations. An informed source reported that on Sunday evening de Massi was seen leaving a nightclub unsteadily, supported by another man.
The investigation is ongoing, but the suspect remains in preliminary detention after being charged with involuntary homicide and failure to help a person in danger.
