The US Department of Homeland Security has released the names and photographs of 24 Nigerian nationals arrested for alleged fraud, money laundering and other offences, with US Immigration and Customs Enforcement carrying out arrests in multiple states. DHS said the operation formed part of intensified immigration enforcement under President Donald Trump, listing offences including wire fraud, mail fraud, money laundering, drug-related crimes, identity theft, assault, forgery, weapons violations and child cruelty. The DHS announcement published a suspect list with the alleged offences and arrest locations. Among those named are Emmanuel Omowaiye, accused of mail fraud in Richmond, Texas, and Olusegun Shonekan, accused of wire fraud in Newark, New Jersey. Also listed are Laurene Onwuka, accused of fraud and impersonation in Chantilly, Virginia, Peter Ude, accused of wire fraud in Atlanta, Georgia, and Michael Orji, accused of weapons violations, fraud, identity theft, wire fraud, false citizenship and money laundering in Oxford, Wisconsin. The list further names Ifeanyi Ibennah, accused of child cruelty in Tampa, Florida. DHS said inclusion on the list does not automatically mean deportation or conviction, with immigration and criminal proceedings still ongoing.
