Utah man accused after FBI finds six explosives near Ogden synagogue
He faces federal hate-crime and explosive-device charges after online threats.
A 22-year-old man from Ogden, Utah, has been indicted after allegedly threatening to bomb a synagogue, with FBI agents discovering six improvised explosive devices during a search.
Federal prosecutors say the suspect is charged with possession of an unregistered destructive device, threats to kill or injure people and destroy property using explosives, and attempting to commit a hate crime.
Investigators began looking into the case after the man published threatening messages online in December 2025. One post said, “I want to blow up a synagogue.”
After federal investigators notified Ogden City Police, agents and local officers visited the suspect’s home and obtained a search warrant. Officers found six improvised explosive pipe bombs and an additional insert device, along with materials and components that could be used to manufacture more explosive devices.
Police also seized a black Samsung cellphone, two rifles, magazines, and ammunition. A separate warrant was later used to examine the phone. Investigators said a review of the device showed he conducted an internet search for a nearby synagogue in November 2025, about a month before the threats.
A federal grand jury returned the indictment on Wednesday, and his initial court appearance is scheduled for Friday.
