Investigators identified 440 people and seized masks, spray paint and passamontañas.
Police in Valencia arrested a 16-year-old suspected of driving the initial online spread of a Blocus Vlc recruitment cartel.
The arrest took place on Saturday, 31 October, at about 18.15 near Valencia’s bullring. Officers said the teenager allegedly helped disseminate a poster via social media, using a QR code that led people to a group in an instant messaging app, where he is also said to have been an administrator.
Police said the suspect was detained while carrying gloves and items to cover his face, along with a mobile phone that was seized. He is expected to be taken to the Juvenile Prosecutor’s Office in the coming hours.
A police device was in place in Valencia from the day before through early the next morning to guarantee, and where needed restore, public security, especially in the city centre. During the operation, officers identified 440 people and drew up six reports for weapons possession, and seven for drugs. They also filed one report for lack of respect for an agent of authority.
Officers seized nine spray paint canisters, 28 balaclavas and eight face coverings, among other items. The police linked the group to plans to provoke vandalism, looting and robberies in shops during the afternoon.
The 16-year-old arrest is the third made in Valencia in four days in investigations into Blocus Vlc. Earlier, a 17-year-old was arrested in Valencia on Wednesday, and a 18-year-old was detained on Friday in Alfafar, with both later processed through the courts. Separate arrests were also reported by the Guardia Civil in Picanya and by the police in Bilbao and Malaga, tied to the same movement.
Latest status: the teenager was arrested and is set to be brought before the Juvenile Prosecutor’s Office as investigations continue.
