Police chase in Vallo di Lauro ends with arrest of 28-year-old
A Mercedes failed to stop at an Alt Polizia and was arrested after today’s validation.
Police in Vallo di Lauro arrested a 28-year-old after a Mercedes failed to stop at an “Alt Polizia” and fled at high speed.
The incident happened on the evening of Saturday 10th of the month, during a police checkpoint carried out by the State Police (Polizia di Stato) at Lauro, as part of services targeting criminal activity in the area.
Officers said the driver sped away and carried out dangerous maneuvers that put pedestrians, other drivers, and the officers of the patrol unit at risk. The immediate checks allowed police to identify the man as a 28-year-old Romanian resident of a municipality in the Vallo di Lauro area.
He was arrested for “fuga pericolosa” (dangerous escape) and reported to the judicial authority for driving without a license and for tampering with the license plate. After a summary hearing with the judge (rito direttissimo) held this morning at the Court of Avellino, the arrest was validated.
The charges are still provisional, and guilt will be assessed only at the end of the final trial.
Police also said the restraining measure under article 192, paragraph 7-bis of the Highway Code, introduced by the February 24, 2026 decree-law no. 23, was applied for the first time in the province of Avellino.
The man remains arrested as the case proceeds toward the definitive judgment.
